Tokyo’s got it together. Composure. Convenience. Cold fish. Commodes. From vending machines that serve and service anything to heated toilet seats that treat your backside with pride and dignity. Tokyo is the future, 17 hours into the future to be exact.
(東京はよかったよ。 静か。 便利。 よそよそしい人。トイレ。 何でも売ってる自動販売機からプライドと尊厳でお尻のために暖かくなってる便座まで。 東京は未来だ。 厳密に言うと17時間未来だ。)
先週の日本ツアーを終えた Jason Mraz 。 自身のウェブサイトで東京の感想を述べている。まずは、日本のトイレで人が近づくと蓋が開くところや、暖かくなった便座、ウォシュレットに説明。 一瞬、ネタか? と思うが、アメリカは今でも何もないただの便器が一般的。日本のウォシュレットなんかまず見かけない。 そんな事情を考えると、Jason の感動はアメリカ人の素直な気持ちだろう。
ライブは成功したらしいが、やはり言葉の壁は感じていたようだ。
特にJason はライブ中のMCや曲をアレンジして途中で語りだしたりするので、この辺は英語圏でないところではつらいところか。 外タレが来ていい加減な公演をして帰っていくことが言われたりするが、観客からの反応がとんちんかんだとそうなっても仕方ないと思う。 日本の公演へ行ってよかったと思ったらその気持をぜひアーティストへ知らせて、日本人もそれなりにわかってるということを知らせてあげよう。
As intended, we played a great show in Shibuya. This was our second adventure as a live act in Tokyo. I was a bit less intimidated by my little understanding of the language and I let it rip, trusting that whatever wasn’t exactly understood could still be interpreted by my actions and overall mood. I think it went over well. If not, I threw enough guitar picks into the crowd to feed their hunger for substance.
(予定通り、渋谷ではすばらしいライブができた。 東京でのライブはこれで2回目。ちょっとだけ言葉を勉強したから、ちょっとはびびることはなくなり、言葉で十分に理解できなかったことでも、アクションや全体の雰囲気でわかってもらえると信じて一生懸命やった。 全体的にうまくいったと思う。 そうじゃなかったとしたら、ギターピックをいっぱい投げすぎて、観客は満足してしまったのかも。 )
で、日本語を少し憶えて、使えると感じた Jason。 最後の方でヘンな日本語講座が…。
